Water Accident: Werksviertel Opening Postponed!

Firstly and most importantly, nobody was harmed. We want to thank the Munich fire department who did a great job in a difficult situation. Their hard work is appreciated.

So, what happened?

As you all know, we had planned to open our new Wombat’s City Hostel Munich Werksviertel at the beginning of September. However, a water pipe on the 8th floor had different plans and, on Sunday August 22nd, it burst.

It takes quite a bit of pressure to funnel water up a building, therefore, the burst lead to a significant water spill and our soon-to-be-opened seven floors were thoroughly showered.

What does this mean for you and for the opening?

We are still assessing the damage, but we are pretty sure that we won’t be able to open the hostel within the next two months. As the situation develops, we will keep you posted here and through our social media communication.

Of course, our Wombat’s City Hostel Munich Hauptbahnhof is open and more than happy to welcome you!

As you can imagine, we are all extremely disappointed. But if you’ve been in this business since 1999, you get pretty good at dealing with a bump in the road, now and again.

After a construction delay caused by Covid, we are treating this water accident with some black humor. Considering our hostels have won multiple awards for their cleanliness, the additional washing cycle certainly wasn’t necessary.
