Flea markets are great, not only that they are good for the environment, also people come together in a relaxed atmosphere and just enjoy the day outside. Cities like Berlin are famous for their flea markets and especially during summer time there are plenty of them. But also in Munich flea markets are getting more and more popular. We checked out the Munich courtyard and garden flea markets (in German: Hofflohmärkte) and they are definitely worth a visit when in Munich during spring and summer time!

How the courtyard flea markets work

House residents sell in their own yard or garden. Together with neighbours, family and friends they organise numerous courtyard and garden flea markets throughout the whole district in one day. Up to 300 house communities and gardens take part in this unique courtyard and garden flea market day - even entire streets and blocks of houses participate. People turn their garages into small shops and in each backyard something new can be discovered! Everybody is very welcome and besides shopping it is a great opportunity to explore the different districts of Munich. Some flea markets are very hidden so it is a little adventure game to find all of them. Probably you will wonder how many courtyards Munich has! If you're getting hungry some of the residents sell self-made cake and Pretzels. Of course that's not it! By following the music you will bump into a street full of food stands offering snacks, beer and other drinks where the crowd comes together.

Where and when are the next dates?

No matter if it's raining, snowing or if it’s burning hot, the courtyard and garden flea markets take place in any weather.
