& Hohenschwangau

The Neuschwanstein Castle, one of the most popular castles and palaces in Europe, was constructed between 1869 and 1886 under King Ludwig II of Bavaria. It was built on the ruins of “Vorder- und Hinterhohenschwangau” in the style of a medieval “knight’s” castle.

The Hohenschwangau Castle was built in neo-Gothic style, commissioned by the Crown Prince Maximilian (later King Maximillian II, Ludwig II’s father) after he acquired ruins of the Schwanstein Castle. This is where King Ludwig II spent his childhood.
