Mery’s Key

Mery's Key are an unlikely duo of female voice & bass guitar masquerading as pop music. Imagine how Newton Faulkner brought alternative guitar playing styles into pop music, but with a female singer in the vein of Natalie Imbruglia or Natasha Bedingfield and accompanied by a bass guitar instead.

Singer Mery Bertòs and bassist Kevin Reginald Cooke formed the duo at the beginning of 2021 and debuted at the G.Modena Theatre in October that year in Palmanova, hand-picked to provide musical entertainment during the life-time career award presentation for famed Italian journalist Enrico Mentana.

In 2023 they performed at Trieste Loves Jazz Festival, a festival that sees lineups with artists such as Cory Henry, Kennedy Administration, The Yellowjackets, Mike Stern and many others of this calibre.

In 2024 they released four singles (Step By Step, My Own Way, Breadcrumbs, and Mi Perderò Con Te) in collaboration with producer Matthew Parisi (Shayne Ward, Luna Blue, Nobody's Wolf Child) to fulfil their vision of being able to build songs from the bass and vocals up in such a way that the music can be appreciated far beyond the audience of their niche.

The highlight of 2025 saw Mery’s Key invited to perform at Basstival 2025 in Germany, joining the stage with some of our era’s most highly renowned bass players such as Jonas Hellborg (Ginger Baker, John McLaughlin, Shawn Lane) and Wojtek Pilichowski (Greg Bisonette, Nicko McBrain, Chris De Burgh) and many others. Mery’s Key were lauded by organisers and audience as being the most exciting and highly anticipated performance due to the most progressive use of the instrument and enjoyability of the songs.

They have recently relocated to Munich in exploration of pastures that are richer for original, live music and continue to write, record and search for performing opportunities.
