We help you save money, so there’s more beer budget left for you. ;-) On top of that, we have some more tips for an unforgettable Oktoberfest adventure:

Basics:

  • Oktoberfest is the world’s largest beer festival. It is held at the Theresienwiese, a massive fairground in the heart of Munich.
  • From Wombat’s City Hostel Munich Werksviertel it’s a mere 20 minutes ride on the U5, which brings you directly to Theresienwiese. (From Wombat’s City Hostel Munich Hauptbahnhof, you can also take the U4 or U5 for a short ride or enjoy a 10-minute walk on foot.)
  • The festival features over a dozen massive beer tents hosted by Munich’s famous breweries like Hofbräu, Paulaner, and Augustiner. Food-wise, it is definitely on the hearty side, with giant pretzels, roasted chicken to Schweinshaxe (pork knuckle) and Weisswurst (white sausage). For a break from the beer tents, enjoy the classic carnival rides, roller coasters, and games for all ages. The dresscode is as Bavarian as possible, with guests typically wearing a “Dirndls” or “Lederhosen” in all thinkable and unthinkable variations.

Advanced Tips:

  • Beer and Oktoberfest Museum Munich: For knowledgeable drinking, learn about the art of brewing and Oktoberfest’s surprising history.
  • „Oide Wiesn“: Located on the southern part of the Theresienwiese with historical rides, festival tents and booths that showcase what the Oktoberfest was like in times past.
  • Raft Trips: The popular fun- (and beer-)filled raft trips on the Isar from Wolfratshausen to Munich are a traditional Bavarian leisure attraction for locals and tourists from all over the world. (See video below!)
  • Fischer Vroni: „Steckerlfisch” is a traditional dish, consisting of marinated fish, typically mackerel or trout, skewered on a stick and grilled over an open flame until crispy and smoky. Fischer Vroni is the place to go for Steckerlfisch.
  • Money at The Wiesn: Some vendors still prefer cash, so be sure to have some euros on hand. Party-Hack: If you have enough cash, you can bribe the orchestra so you can conduct one song.

Wombat’s Pro Tips:

  • To help you kick off your day with ease, check-in starts at 3 PM, and check-out's at 11 AM - More time to recover, more time to enjoy ;)
  • Bring an extra set of shoes, yours might get lost at Wiesn. Don’t ask how, just trust us.
  • You can buy a second hand outfit (Dirndl and Lederhosen) at our reception!
