Overall very nice place to meet new people and find nice events to join. Very clean and even though it’s a party hostel, we had no problem with noise. Nice space to have a coffee or a few drinks.
This hostel was alright but it has a few glaring issues that really drag it down, to the point where I had to move accommodation after one night. The Reception team were fantastic: friendly, efficient, and very welcoming. The room was passable, however the smell of faeces coming from the bathroom was terrible! It may be that the infrastructure of the building isn’t robust enough to support the number of facilities the hostel has? Perhaps this isn’t the case with the private rooms, but many of the dorms seem to have this issue. In any case, I decided to move accommodation because of it. Even as I was getting ready to leave in the morning, a housekeeper came in and gave me an incredibly dirty look before swearing under her breath (I understand enough Hungarian to tell). The cleanliness situation was completely inadequate, which is a shame because it would have otherwise been quite a nice hostel.
Sincerely this is my first experience in wombat’s hostel and I’m very happy for the location and the rooms, with free lockers and very comfortable beds :) if in my nex trip there are a wombat’s hostel I’ll repeat. Don’t leave hostel without taste coffee in the bar!
I had a pleasant stay at this hotel. The roommates were very nice and the room was large and spacious. However, the room was a bit noisy, so we could hear noises from the neighboring rooms. The cleanliness in the room was okay, but there were a few small flaws here and there. I originally booked a female dorm, but stayed in a mixed dorm.
Wombat hostel in Budapest offers a remarkable experience with its exceptional cleanliness, prime location, and friendly staff. The hostel’s cleanliness is commendable, with well-maintained facilities, spotless rooms, and hygienic common areas. The prime location adds to its appeal, situated in a convenient area close to popular attractions and easily accessible transportation options. The staff members are friendly and welcoming, providing excellent customer service and offering helpful recommendations for exploring the city. Overall, this hostel provides a delightful stay with its cleanliness, convenient location, and hospitable staff, making it an excellent choice for travelers visiting Budapest.
It was really good except for the weird stain in my bed which looked like menstrual blood? I slept on my sheets to avoid touching it. I would also like lockers in the room for your belongings after check out, it’s good that you can leave your valuables with the staff though. They are very friendly and really make a difference!
There are lots of places to hang out in the common rooms. Everything is very clean and the beds are comfortable. The rooms of 6 people could use a table and a few chairs. The staff was fun and super friendly!
The bathroom in my shared dorm was poorly cleaned for the majority of the stay. The shower was unclean, there is mold all over the roof and had a bad smell. I instead used the toilets downstairs which were generally much better. The social atmosphere was great. Kitchen was well equipped and cleaned regularly. There could be a change of dish washing cloths.
I was little surprised about the payment system. Secondly, they respond very late to my query.
It is a great location. However not my favourite hostel I have been in , the rooms were very unclean and our toilet door kept getting jammed. Although they advertise it as a big fun hostel they hate noise past liek 9 and the bar also closes early , so wasn’t easy for meeting hostel friends. I enjoyed the spacious rooms but the locker system was annoying as you could end up with one no where near your bed. Also teh kitchen lacked many utensils and was also dirty. Only disappointed as I had a great experience in their Vienna hostel which I really recommend
Enjoyed our stay at the hostel however the Wombar staff member working on Friday 18th August in the evening served me a drink in a broken glass (I didn’t notice at first so no worries) but then when I drank some shards of glass and had glass in my teeth, we asked if we could have a replacement and she said “What do you want me to do about it?” and then tried to give me water in the same broken glass. Not good enough
Overall it was a great location and pretty clean. Had everything I needed for my stay in Budapest. However, I had booked a female dormitory and there was a man staying in the room one night. The bed was also super loud whenever I moved which was annoying and woke up the other people in my room.
the bathroom in my room absolutely stank but otherwise things seemed generally clean. would have liked if blankets were washed since we just saw staff members folding them up
Great value for money. Brilliant location. Friendly staff and very clean.
Price is good for solo travellers as its the cheapest but if you go on groups of 3 or more its too expensive. You can find better equipped airbnbs (complete with laundry, kitchens and even a bathubs with free towerls).
Location is really great and stuff is very friendly. Overall clean and nicely decorated with fresh and vibrant vibe. Breakfast is simple but much better than I would expect at a hostel; plant milk, tosti makers and fruit available We enjoyed it. Considering its location and evening activities downstairs where people party and hand out, rooms (4th floor) were very quiet. Airco worked great as well. Now for not so great points: matras was bot great. Thin and I could feel every bump in it but the worse thing was overwhelming smell of old pipes and sewage in the hallway and even worst in the room which was coming in from the bathroom. It took whole day of closed bathroom door and open windows to reduce the stench a little bit. Also our room only had skylights, no windows looking out, so felt a bit claustrophobic. Overall not the best hostel we have ever been too but definitely worth visiting and coming back back to for a short stay.
Pros: Great location, friendly staff, easy check-in with plenty of events hosted by hostel. Meh: Hostel is in an big old 4-star hotel, filled to the brim with dorms and a large lobby. A little too much going on for my taste, just know what you’re getting into Cons: Quite dirty. Lots of trash and empty bottles in common areas at night (to be expected from a party hostel) but there were also Puke Stains on my room’s toilet from someone else on my first night, that were never cleaned the duration of my stay. Public bathrooms in common area weren’t much better (dislodged toilet seat with piss on it…)
Good breakfast, comfortable room and nice staff! I only missed some sope and paper for the toilet.
The hostel is affordable and in a great location. It’s clean and displays events every night that you can book at reception. The staff were very friendly too and gave lots of useful tips. The only issues I had were that the kitchen didn’t supply cooking oil, salt or pepper etc that travelers don’t usually carry around, or a tea towel, so cleaned dishes stacked up on the side. Many other people and I also had issues with people stealing food, which I know is difficult for the hostel to control, but is something to look out for. Also in the bathrooms there was again no hand soap or hand towels. Even though it has events, you have to make your own way to them, and because of the hostels size I found it difficult to socialize with people, so I wouldn’t say it’s the best hostel to meet other travelers.
Staff was very friendly. Hostel was *mostly* as advertised, but expensive for what you get. Especially laundry!!! Don’t book this for the laundry. 3+ hours to dry a very small, cotton load and due to the lack of AC in the bunks, no ability to dry it in your room (too humid). And it was expensive! The hostel was clean and the location was clutch.
My experience at the Wombat Hostel in Budapest was amazing! All the staff were super friendly and helpful, not to mention great to get along with! The hostel had any amenity you can think of and the atmosphere in the common spaces was very welcoming and exciting! Overall, I had an amazing experience and made memories that will last a lifetime!
I communicated with multiple members of the Wombats team that I was going through an SA criminal case in Budapest and needed to extend and extra day to further finish with the case and look for the perpetrators. I was told that was more than fine and to stay in the same room. That morning I was woken up repeatedly and told to leave as they did not care. Could not recommend this place less. 1 star as that’s the minimum score to give.
We enjoyed our stay at the Wombat’s in Budapest. The rooms were clean and the beds were fairly comfortable. Good size locker for storage. Only downside was all of the shared rooms have en-suite bathrooms so if people are getting ready at the same time, the mornings can be slow. AC worked great and the common areas downstairs are spacious. We did the bar crawl with the hostel and it was fun and a good deal with welcome shots at each of the bars. If you’re coming to Budapest, don’t miss out at staying at the Wombat’s!
