Bermuda Triangle

The Bermuda Triangle is a small area of cobble-stoned streets near Schwedenplatz with 25 pubs and bars to choose from. A good one is Krah Krah (Beer & Food); Ron Con Soda and First Floor. Many you-Tarzan-I-Jane (either way) places. Worth a mention is Maschu Maschu on Rabensteig 8. They say they serve the best Falafel in town - no bullshit!

other locations

logo Cafe Carina

Café Carina

(in the Underground station building) Mon-Sat 6:00 pm – 2:00 am, Sunday closed. Former station café, hence the ambience (yuck!) but filled with a trendy crowd. Eclectic programme: bands, film, DJs, art performances, stand-up comedy, symposia etc.

                 (8., Josefstädter Straße 84)

logo europa

Café Europa

A cozy place for lunch, meeting people, drinking coffee and for relaxing after a strenuous shopping tour from the close-by Mariahilfer Straße or the perfect address for a nightly snack – they are open from 9:00 – 5:00 am and serve food till late. During the summer, they offer a huge breakfast buffet on Sundays and holidays from 9:00 am – 3:00 pm for only € 10,90. Behind the stainless steel door you find the Europa-Lager (formerly known as Hinterzimmer) with a brilliant DJ line-up and live acts.

                 (7., Zollergasse 8)

logo caffe latte

Caffè Latte

Open Mon-Sat 7:00 am – 1:00 am, Sun 11:00 am – 1:00 am. Breakfast till 3:00 am, italian and meditarranean meals, wonderful cocktails and brunch for € 10,- (drinks are extra) on Saturdays and Sundays from 11:00 am – 3:00 pm. On Happy Sundays all cocktails are for € 4,50.

                 (7., Neubaugasse 39)

logo moebel

Das Möbel

Daily 10:00 am – 1:00 am. Comfy hangout. The peculiar gimmick here is the furniture. You can buy it if you like it, and you will like it. If your backpack lacks space for that sort of shopping, they serve organic wine, Velkopopovicky beer (you are too drunk if you can’t pronounce it) and small snacks.

                 (7., Burggasse 10)

logo down under

Down Under

Daily from 7:00 pm with open end. Nice pub for Aussies and Aussie-wannabes. Great, loud cellar (“the snake pit”) often with sort-of private parties.

                 (6., Magdalenenstraße 32)

logo Pandora's Box

Pandora's Box

Daily 7:00 pm – 4:00 am. Pool & football-tables, pinball machines. Two floors. Legendary “underground pub” since the 80ies. Every day DJ-line from 10:00 pm to 4:00 am.

                 (6., Kurzgasse 6)

logo shultz

Shultz

Mon-Thu 9:00 am – 2:00 am, Fri-Sat 9:00 am – 3:00 am (closed on Sundays during winter season). In the stylish American Bar Café with its glass walls you get the impression of being in the street rather than close to it – which changes in summer when the glass walls “disappear” and you can actually sit outdoors. Two lunch menus. Happy Hour from 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm.

                 (7., Siebensterngasse 31)

logo strandbar hermann

Strandbar Hermann

Nicely located on the shores of the Wien River and the Danube Channel, it is as good as a beach bar gets in a landlocked country. Huge bar, sometimes DJs and lots of comfy deck chairs on real sand. Very popular in summer.

                 (1., Franz-Josefs-Kai)

logo wirr

Wirr

Open Mon-Sat 10:00 am – 4:00 am, Sun 10:00 am – 2:00 am. The student ghetto´s living room. Nice pub with comfy couches on ground floor, also serving food, and a club downstairs with DJs on Sat and occasional live gigs.

                 (7., Burggasse 70)

some places to watch sports

logo pointers

Pointers

(Live Cricket, rugby & soccer). Open Mon-Fri 11:00 am – 2:00 am, Sat & Sun 5:00 pm – 2:00 am. If your liver has been naughty and you need to punish it, then „drinking around the world“ is a fun thing to do. 15 beers from 15 different countries await you. Finish them in one evening and you get a t-shirt and a plaque with your name on it that will be added to the wall of fame. Not the cheapest pastime, but definitely one of the must fun things to do during a live cricket, rugby or football match.

                 (4., Resselgasse 5)

logo flanagans

Flanagans

Sun-Thu 10:00 am – 2:00 am, Fri & Sat 10:00 am – 4:00 am. These lads take the term “Irish Pub” seriously: built by Irish craftsmen with material originating from a pub in Cork. Excellent pub, good Irish kitchen, rugby and footy shown on big screens.

                 (1., Schwarzenberg Straße 1)

logo shebeen

Shebeen

Tue-Sat 5:00 pm – 4:00 am, Sun and Mon 5:00 pm – 2:00 am. The living room of our South African (and other) expats. Austrian, American (great burgers!) and Thai food, football, baseball, rugby and cricket shown on big screens.
