The festival for contemporary dance, “ImPulsTanz” gathers the international avant-garde of dance in Vienna from 15 July to 15 August 2010.
Belgian Wim Vandekeybus opens this year's "ImPulsTanz" festival with his world-famous company Ultima Vez in Vienna's MuseumsQuartier. Vandekeybus has also invited the Belgian rock musician Mauro Pawlowski - a member of the internationally celebrated band Deus - to Vienna and together with him creates a wild catwalk program of dance, music and video. A definitive highlight, apart from Anna Teresa De Keersmaeker with Rosas, is the South African choreographer Robyn Orlin with the City Theater Dance Group from Johannesburg. She will perform her piece "We must eat our suckers with the wrappers on" on 20 and 22 July 2010. The work about AIDS is part of the cultural supporting program of the AIDS congress, which starts in Vienna on 18 July.
Other highlights on the program are two productions by Mathilde Monnier: her work "pavlova 3'23''", which premiered in 2009 and is inspired by the 3-minutes ballet solo "The dying swan", which Folkine created in 1907 for top dance Anna Pavlova, and her latest creation, on which the head of the Centre Chorégraphique National Montpellier Languedoc-Roussillon is currently working. Also in the festival is a cooperation between Les Ballets de Monte Carlo under the directorship of the famous choreographer Jean-Christophe Maillot and the Austrian dance company Liquid Loft.
