MIRJAM
Hallo!
I started my "womCareer" 5 years ago by working at the womBar. I liked it very much but after some years i got tired of working only at nighttime... Since I didn´t want to leave wombats yet I was happy to get a job in the office where I've been working now for 3 years.
Appart from europe I´ve traveled to Austrailia and New Zeeland and I might go to south africa for the Soccer Worldchampionsship in 2010.
If you'd ask me about my favourite spot in vienna I´d probably say Vienna City Beach Club, thats a spot at the new danube. Even if I don´t make it there to often it always feels like holidays even if you spent there only one day or some hours. Music - Sun - Beach (even if its faked)- Drinks - and a jump in the Denube River every now and then.. http://www.vcbc.at/v1/
One Tip: if you stay at more then one wombats hostel make sure you get a stamp on one of our flyers. The second one gives you a free breakfast or big beer or you wait for the third one to get a special suprise....
Happy travel
Mirjam

Hey everybody!
Well…what to tell about me…?
I’m a 26 year old local Viennese girl working at Wombats for about 2 years by now.
I started off at the reception and have moved to the office about a year ago and just enjoy trying to make our guests feel comfortable and well-cared for in our hostel.
Apart from that I just finished my studies of International Business Administration and I’m happy that my study life is finally over and I can dedicate my full energy to my working life.
I love travelling and have developed kind of a passion for Australia having stayed there twice for a semester during my studies and twice just for holidays.
My favourite places in Vienna:
Hang-out: Danube Island (go to the Copa Cagrana on a nice sunny day and enjoy some cocktails whilst watching the sun go down over the Danube river)
Go-out: Arena (alternative music) and WUK
Food: Running Sushi @ Lugner City (just catch the metro U6 from Westbahnhof and go for 1 stop until “Burggasse/Stadthalle”)

About me:
Hi!
I'm Chris. What can I tell you about myself?
I'm from Styria, a southern province of Austria, but I grew up in Lower Austria, the province surrounding Vienna. Tired of the Austrian Way of Life and curious for something new I went to the US for a year to study. There I got the chance to see a lot of the country-side as well as a collection of big cities.
When I got back I moved to Vienna and started to study international economics which I'm still doing.
My hobbies involve sports, hanging out with friends, work as a volunteer for AFS – an organization promoting intercultural learning, party at the womBar and travel as much as possible. My recently visited destinations were Sweden, Finland, Germany and Poland. This summer I'll be travelling to Luxembourg, through France and the Czech Republic.
How I got to be a part of Wombats?
After being a regular guest at the womBar (still a hobby of mine) I decided to apply for a job at the reception to make sure that I could still meet people from all over the world which is by the way the most fun in this job. Other than that I can just tell you how much I enjoy to be part of a great team and a great hostel!
Although I've seen a few places around the world, Austria seems like a very good place to be. Vienna is a beautiful city, so if you get the chance, come and visit us! And when you're here and you have a question, then just come down to the reception desk and ask ;)
Have fun & travel safely
Chris
My favorite places in Vienna:
Hang out: Burggarten
Food: Ramien, Halle (MQ)
Museum: Albertina

Nationality: Austrian
Travel Destination: all over Europe, unfortunately missing some overseas
experience
Languages: German, English, French (drunk)
About me:
Slightly escaped some obese polar foxes in the epic year of 1984, I - all of a sudden - found myself in the middle of picturesque Bohemian Vienna, which I left a few times, but always returned.
Still reclining on Alma Mater's dignified chest, I've been working in Ireland and France, traveling through Estonia/Latvia/Lithuania and currently planning to (slowly) take over the world's supremacy. (don't tell anyone!)
As I lived (yes.) in several (pretty horrible) hostels all over Europe, I'm glad to be a member of the Wombat's team, that makes me feel like being part of this huge and fabulous traveling community.
Things you should definitely check out in Vienna:
Going-out
.) Rosa Lila Villa (http://www.villa.at/)
For the queeeer ones and those, likely to be - a political statement established in 1982 including a great bar (with decent guests and great food) and all the information about hot spots for gay/lesbian venues.
.) Fluc (www.fluc.at)
Artsyfartsy Fluc, situated in the dusty twilight of Praterstern, offering lectures, concerts, great atmosphere, (pretty) cheap drinks and a relaxed crowd.
Food/Drinks
.) WerkzeugH (http://www.werkzeugh.at/blog/uber-uns/)
Supersupersupersuper comfortable restaurant/bar with living-room atmosphere, build up out of a wide range of a seemingly random selection of antique furniture and great (and cheap) beer. Everyday they offer 2 or 3 different delightful meals. (I'm going to marry their cook, for sure.)
.) Café Servus (http://www.servus-cafe.at/)
Old traditional coffeehouse in the middle of the shopping empire (Mariahilfer-Street). Local food, really good coffee and newspapers all over.
Museums/Art
.) Leopold Museum (http://www.leopoldmuseum.org/)
First spot for 20th century Art. Kokoschka, Schiele, Klimt and regularly changing exhibitions on modern art. Also including the Leopold Café.

I grew up in the middle of Vienna, one of the most liveable and interesting cities in the world. After travelling through life for around 26 years already and having a go in some studies and the most different jobs I could imagine, I am now happily working here in this awesome hostel called “the base”.
Some places you should check out after you´ve done all the typical sightseeing stuff:
-arena (good concerts, punk, rock, d´n´b, ska,…)
-wuk (always interesting concerts or events)
-flex (just a place you should have been to in Vienna)
-all the irish pubs (always good for a beer and party)
-Danube channel beach bars (nice holiday feeling in the middle of the city)
-burggarten, altes akh, jesuitenwiese…(nice green parks to chill out or play the ball, Frisbee,…)
- or just walk around “the ring” and get lost (always the best way to explore a city)
Well that´s it for now, you´ll get more info when you check-in at the base.
I`m looking forward to welcome you here guys,
C ya soon!

Hola to all
My name is Lino

One day, aimlessly walking down the road, I tripped and fell into the Wombats. Where had I been walking from? I came from an area with beach and sand, sun and ocean. You may ask, "Where have you been" and ill say, " North, South, East and West. But it so happens that ive been living here in vienna for the past two years, and working in Wombats for the last year. During my last year I have vigilantly served my time as a Womabto directing to and fro all sorts of tarvellers, as well as party goers. You see it turns out that my calling was nightshift and let me tell you, a night in Wombats is a night you cant easily forget.
I am a nighty and Ill tell you where to party! So come, ask away, and ill make sure youll have fun in Vienna!

Parks + Greens: Grüner Prater, Augarten, Lobau

RENE
Hey kids!
My name is Rene and I have the pleasure to be part of your nightlife.
Damn right, I’m your bartender. I grew up on a farm in Upper Austria
near Linz and I’m studying journalism, history and economics in Vienna.
Working with a great team and meeting open-minded people from all
over the world, is more than fun, it’s luxury. If you need any information
about electronic parties from club to underground, don’t hesitate asking me!
Respect the hardcore mother earth!
EBI
Hey!
My name is Ebi (short form of something you don't wanna know) and my roots are in Cologne, Germany. It was quite an accident that I ended up here in Vienna three years ago since it was my last option to finally study and not waste time anymore. Well, it wasn't just time wasting, cause after school I took a year break travelling Australia and New Zealand.
Staying in a lot of different hostels I started dreaming of working in a heavenly retreat like Wombat's one day. Kidding! But in fact, I guess Wombat's is the best option you can choose when coming to Vienna. On rainy and cold days the bar is always the place to be. And on sunny days als well. =)
Can you dig it?
VRENI
Dancing on a bar and talking to some Aussies made me get this job here at Wombats, believe it or not. That was in spring 2006. Since then, Wombats became my second family and a place to go to even I if I have a day off. I travelled a little bit years ago and enjoy every time I meet some new people! That's what I love about Wombats, meeting new people every night and have a good experience at the WomBar
If you wanna go out at night, looking for something hard and rockin' in vienna, ask me. If you're looking for nice pubs or places to relax and have a beer, every one of us has good places to go
so, that's enough,
see you in the bar!
ANDI
Hallo guys!
My name is Andi and I am one of your bartenders in the one and only WomBar. I am 24 years old and was born in the South of Austria in a really small village called Puch. How did I come to Vienna? Like most of the people, I came here for studying. So I am still studying International Development and the WomBar is the right place to get the “practical” part of my studies. I am actually as well the neighbour of the Wombats so I know this area quite well and know all good students´ nightlife places in Vienna. So come to the bar, drink a beer with me and ask were you can have a lot of fun aside from the WomBar.
See you!
MARIA
Hey everybody!
My name is Maria and I was born in a small town in Upper Austria. Before coming to Vienna I lived two years in India, were I went to school and travelled a lot. Right now I study Biology and English, but I still enjoy spending my holidays some place abroad!
So as you see working part-time as a bartender in the Wombat’s, is actually THE job for me! It gives me the opportunity to practice my English, to get inspired by all the travel reports, and last but not least to supplement my own travelling budget .
Well, that’s enough from me now ... hope to meet you soon and to spend an awesome time in the great womBar together!
ULLI
Cheers!
Hi my name is Ulli! Since there is a womBar I am there pouring the beer as well. That is if I am not just traveling somewhere in the world myself. Which I sometimes do for years. What can I say I got my travelbug a long time ago and when I am at home me and the bug are happiest surrounded by travelers exchanging stories. As a real Austrian born in Salzburg I can of course tell you where to go and what to see here as well! But most of the time we simply party like rockstars!
So come see us and have a great time @ womBar!
BERNADETTE
Hey everybody!
My name is Bernadette. I've been serving drinks in the womBar for years (five, actually) so don't ask me if it's fun (damn sure it is!!) and womBar was the financial basis for some travels of my own (especially to South America, where I can't wait to go again). I'd actually love to spend my winters on the Southern Hemisphere on a regular basis so please, Sascha and Marcus, think about a little, cozy wombats in Buenos Aires In the meantime I’ll try to make you guys happy by serving the cheapest beer in town and by making people jump on the bar and rip their clothes off (no shit!). If that's too much for you, I will of course recommend the best places to escape the crazy womBar ;) especially rock, relaxed and outdoor stuff.
See ya!
PHILIPP
Hey my name is Philip and I’m from Germany, like most other nice barkeepers in the womBar.
I ended up in Vienna 4 years ago like most of the other "Piefkes" (the lovely Austrian nickname for Germans) for my study "International Development" and "Agriculture". My successful wombat’s career started in 2006 as one of the guys how are sleeping behind the reception during the night. But since almost three years I’m giving my best behind the bar or on the Pool! So if you want to lose a Pool game, want to know the best party location for the night or even if you want to drink one of the best caipirinhas in Europe, then come to the one and only womBar!!
And don't piss down my neck and tell me it's raining!
LEON
Hey there!
Coming to Vienna? Great! I’ll be waiting for you behind the womBar ready to send you to dreamland...
My name is Leon, I’m 24, coming from Munich in Germany. I came to Vienna over four years ago, after I fled my hometown to travel Europe, Indonesia and New Zealand for about one year of surfing. Initially I wasn’t planning on staying that far away from the ocean for long but somehow this city holds me hostage and I think I have some kind of Stockholm syndrome, because I just love Vienna. I’ve been working in Wombat’s for about three years now spending all the money I earn to get out of the grip of my beloved city to see some more of the world.
If your looking for a night of excessive dancing, a relaxed spot to hang out or just a little chat while drinking your beer, never hesitate to ask.
Looking forward to pour you a beer,
Leon
TOM
Once upon a time... (5 years ago)
I came to Vienna to finish my studies as a technical engineer. I rented an apartment in the Grangasse, not expecting that it was located next to a hostel. At that time I didn't know that backpackers love partying on the street (or for that matter underneath my window).
Now I had two choices ...find another place to live or join the party crowd. Surprisingly I took the second option
Believe me or not it was you guys who made me the alcoholic I am today. So I became a regular at Wombat’s.
My next plan was to get even cheaper beer. I did what I had to do. I started working behind the bar. That’s where I am now, at the spring that never runs dry.
Cheers Tom
