What´s up in Munich
/ 09.06.08
It´s Munich´s Birthday!!!
These days, Munich is celebrating its 850th anniversary, i.e. the anniversary of its founding at the hands of Henry the Lion, duke of Bavaria, who in 1158 destroyed a bridge over the Isar river only to replace it by a new one on the site of today´s Ludwigsbrücke and thus spurred the rise of one of Germany´s most lively and interesting cities. On 14 and 15 June, there´ll be an official celebration on MARIENPLATZ, Munich´s most central square, accompanied by loads of wurstels (sausages), pretzels and (of course!) beer, on 19 and 20 July there´ll be a street festival along Altstadtring, the remainder of Munich´s old city wall. Finally on 1 through 3 August, the Isarbrückenfest on the Isar bridges will conclude the festivities.
