Team Munich

our crazy staff

wombats_team_munich

Well, that’s the whole wombunch chilling in our favourite spot of wombats: the winter garden! (Some bad apples might say that it’s the bar but that’s SO not true! At least if there’s still some beer left in our glasses…). Too bad that’s it’s not our real workstation. We’re strewn over the reception, the bar and the barren wastelands of the back office. And of course there are some poor buggers who have to clean up the mess day after day after day…
Most of our staff are students who love to travel all over this little blue planet “in the uncharted backwaters of the unfashionable end of the western spiral arm of the Galaxy”. Like you!
So they know exactly what it’s like to fall off the night train and crawl into a hostel, desperately searching for a bed in a seemingly nutty town.
Doesn’t matter if you’re old or young, tall or small, sane or mad:

All of you are most welcome!

…as long as you strip your f***ing bed yourselves. :-)
But with the words of THE most important guide book in all history:
DON’T PANIC

SASKIA

Hey guys, I am Saskia,
Wombats Munich is a bit like my baby as I work here since the very beginning .
I love being around and working with young people from all over the world.
My mission is that all our ships sail in the same direction :-)
I love living in Munich because of its great beer gardens, surroundings like the lakes and the mountains. You find something to do here in any season!

MANUELA

My name is Manuela but most of my friends call me Manu or little Miss Giggles. Though I have been travelling the world and living and working abroad quite a bit during the last few years Wombat’s has always been my family I’ve been drawn back to. ;) I am originally from Austria, well, that’s what my passport states at least. However I have probably spent more time anywhere else in the world than Austria, I think. ;)

My feet have been itchy ever since I got back from my first big trip. Thanks to post travel blues I was desperate to find a job that keeps me connected with the backpacking world – all of you awesome people out there- and- yay- I was fortunate enough to become part of the Wombats family.

In my time off and every time I miss Hawaii and all the cute surfboys, too much, I usually hangout at the Eisbachwelle. Even my“husband to be”*I wish*Jack Johnson has already been riding it... ;)

After riding the Moose in Canada and having been separated from my Wombat’s family once again, I decided it was about time to come back home again for a little while…and well here I am, in the back office, now…and as Michael Buble would say – “we have to work so we can work to work it out”...;)

TORSTEN

Hey folks!

My name is Torsten but friends and foreigners who can’t pronounce it may call me To.

My story is a typical student’s tale:
I began to study, started working at Wombats in 2004 as a night shifter at  reception, fell in love with it, finished studying, didn’t give a damn about that fact and continued at Wombats.
So actually I’m a sports therapist, yoga teacher and alternative practitioner but what the hell. Sometimes you may also see me riding my cute rickshaw through the inner city.

Meanwhile I changed to the back office because I couldn’t stand it anymore being at the front desk, raging with jealousy by the look of happy people with backpacks cruising around. ;-)

Meaning I’m addicted to travelling myself and praise the Flying Spaghetti-Monster that Wombats allows me to sneak away to any corner of this mad world every now and then.
I love hiking - especially in the mountains - so all you guys from Nepal: Beware!

When I’m not out and about you can meet me at our beautiful Isar river at one of the myriads of campfires, a Käsekrainer in one hand and a cool Augustiner beer in the other, relaxing with some good people.
Apart from 42 that’s my meaning of life.

“Now. Bring me that horizon!”

MATTHIAS

FRANZISKA

My name is Matthias and I have been at wombats since July, 2007. Basically, my job is located at the front desk and comes with all duties we refer to as reception. We, as receptionists at wombats, are anywhere at anytime and all questions are welcome.

Aside from the good times at wombats, I study at a university in Munich with a major in geography and I am into tourism, having done an apprenticeship with a German tour operator before my time here Most of my travels have been to different places across Europe and I still love the diversity of our continent! Come over and visit.

Greetings from one good place to another.

Hey, I'm Franziska and I work at the Wombar. I'm there for 5 months now and I can really say that I enjoy it. I hope you have a nice time at the Wombat's and meet so many interesting people as I do

JULIA

CHRISSY

Ciao!
I'm Julia and I'm a receptionist at wombats Munich! Working at wombats means to me, staying in touch with the world. I love travelling and as soon as I finish University you're gonna find me somewhere in this world together with my faithful backpack Dan. I've already travelled through parts of Europe, New Zealand, Australia and I studied in Italy for a while. But there are so many more beautiful places in this world I have to go!!! I study theatre science here in munich and I like it a lot, even if people keep on asking me what the hell I'm going to do with it afterwards… Anyway, Oscar Wilde and Shakespeare are good friends of mine. I love spending time with my friends, rocking the womBar with Charismatic-Chrissy, believe in fairy tales and I also like laughing…. really - laughing is good, you should try it!!! Or you just pop in at wombats and I promise I'm gonna make you laugh!! Looking forward meeting you guys, see you at reception!

Aloha!
I’m Chrissy and this is my little story: The world fascinates me! There is just so much to see and explore! And I wanna see all of that! That’s why I study Geography; to know what’s around me, where I live and why the world is like it is. It’s fun! And I like having fun. I mean, who doesn’t?! …having a good time, being happy and enjoying life! What I also like: Adventures, Going out, being around my friends, playing … in the sand, sun and snow, cruising around on my bike, hanging out in the wombar with a gin tonic and joyful julia. Travelling, oh yeahhh, I like! I like a lot. Around the world. Anywhere. Just put me somewhere on this planet and i go explore the place! When I’m done studying I’m gonna become a great explorer. Like Kolumbus. Or Vasco da Gama.
Too bad the world is already pretty much explored. :-( Oh well…, but I’ve got plenty of other plans. :-) Right now I work at the Wombats reception to make your backpacking trip and Munich experience the superdooper best one!
So come and have some fun with us!
…whatever tomorrow comes, I’ll be there!

MAXIME

MAGS

Hey everyone, I’m Maxime. I’ve been working at the Wombats reception since April 2010. I love meeting people from all over the world, listening to their stories and trying to make their stay in Munich unforgettable.

When I’m not working, I love to travel around myself, learn languages and get to know other countries and cultures. I speak German, English, Spanish, Portuguese, and I’m trying to learn some Chinese, too. I’d like to see just about every place in the world, but my home will always be Munich. Why I love this city? Come around and find out yourself!

Hey guys, I’m Mags.
I’m working at Wombats since April 2010. At the moment I’m studying arts in Munich, but if I’m not working or studying, I’m travelling around the world. I’ve already been to some places in Europe, Thailand and lived for a year in New Zealand. I love seeing different countries, so if you have any good stories about places you have been, please let me know. It could be my next stop.
Hope to see you guys.

RITA

Hi - I'm Rita, from Berlin and I'm the head of our womBar team. My job is to make u're nights in our bar unforgettable and that we always have enough beer and spirits in our stock.

If I'm not in our bar, I'm visiting concerts & festivals as much as I can, because I'm also a music journalist, working for different magazines. That's why we aren't just the best hostels bar, we're also playing the best music in town!

SUZETTE

Hi! My name is Suzette. Working at wombats since 2004. I am responsible for housekeeping and breakfast. I simply enjoy being here!
Besides that I like hiking in the mountains and even the biting cold in winter can not stop me from skiing.

EMILY

Hola!  My name is Emily and Im the "Breakfast Lady". I make sure you are well fed and ready for your city tour or for your next european stop.

Im originally from Washington, DC USA with Latinos parents, so I speak both Spanish and English and now some German.  I absolutely love traveling and how it can open up opportunities to new friendships and sometimes life changes.  My favorite travel story is going to school in Mexico, meeting a German boy and one year later moving to Munich love. Cheezy? I know!!!  You never know what can happen when you travel!!

I enjoy working at breakfast because you guys have the best stories of your previous nights or just plain excited about exploring the city. I hope you enjoy your stay and make sure you buy your breakfast ticket at the reception desk and come visit me!

JANNA

STEFFI

Hey there. I´m Janna,  a true „Münchner Kindl“,  born in Munich and still living here. But i love to see the world, lived in Australia and Spain for a bit, and go as far as i can, whenever i can. But because of my studies i can´t travel that often, so I try to make Munich as much fun as possible.
There is loads to see apart from the great womBar (my place at wombats):
During the day, i recommend visiting the Hypo Kunsthalle for arties, the area around Max-Weber-Platz or Gärtnerplatz for coffees and vibes, the Mittelaltermarkt for Christmastime and the English Garden including the Eisbach-Surfers for relaxing in summer.
At night (after Wombar of course) i love the Cafe King, Rote Sonne and Pimpernel(Dance and all) and McMueller(best fresh burgers in town until very late).
I´m looking forward to see you all at wombats, especially at the bar for a amazing bavarian beer.

Hello everybody!
I’m Steffi and I work at the world famous womBar. My job is to give you as much Bavarian beer and Jager as you need to make your night at wombats (un)forgettable. So, if you need drinks or just some information about Munich nightlife, feel free to ask. And if my shift's over...I might even join you on your clubbing tour.

See ya at the womBar!
