Exhibitions
The exhibition "Gustav Mahler and Vienna" will be shown at the Austrian Theatre Museum from 11 March until 3 October 2010. The exhibition focuses on Vienna's role in the life of Gustav Mahler. It will also show Mahler's influence on Vienna from his time as director of the Vienna Court Opera until today.
The Vienna State Opera Museum focuses on Mahler's time as director of the Vienna Court Opera. He introduced a number of changes such as the dimming of lights in the auditorium during the overture. People who were late had to wait until the next break before they could take their seats in the auditorium. Before that people would move in and out of the auditorium, and eat, drink and chat during the performance.
The Haus der Musik dedicates a separate room to Mahler on the third floor where they present the Great Masters of Viennese Music Tradition. The archives of the Society of Friends of Music in Vienna and of the Arnold Schönberg Center are also rich sources of information for Mahler enthusiasts.
