The film festival on Rathausplatz, the square in front of Vienna City Hall, opens for the 21st time this summer. The unique location attracts up to 700,000 visitors each summer to enjoy the special atmosphere, listen to selected musical highlights and indulge in the many international culinary delights.
This year's programme continues the tradition of showing top-class music, opera and dance films against the spectacular backdrop of Vienna City Hall. Admission is free for all visitors who are welcome to watch more than 40 films on 65 evenings throughout the summer.
This year the programme focuses on the anniversaries of Gustav Mahler and Franz Liszt as well as on Placido Domingo who celebrates his 70th birthday and his 50th career anniversary. The audience on Rathausplatz will have the opportunity to admire great opera stars such as Anna Netrebko, Jonas Kaufmann, Herbert von Karajan, Gustavo Dudamel and Christian Thielemann as well as famous dancers such as Jiri Kylian and legendary musicians such as Diana Krall, Eric Clapton and Ray Charles.
Top-class opera productions from the Vienna State Opera and the Bavarian State Opera in Munich will be broadcast live on Rathausplatz.
