"The Blue Rider" in The Albertina / 07.02.2011

The Albertina is granting the "Der Blaue Reiter" (The Blue Rider) artist's group its own exhibit. The exhibit will include works by Wassily Kandinsky, Paul Klee and Alfred Kubin.

"The Blue Rider" is a loosely affiliated group of artists founded in 1911 by Wassily Kandinsky that brings together important German and Russian expressionist painters. Its artistic scope ranges from the drawings of Gabriele Münter and August Macke to the delicate lines of Paul Klee and the abstract watercolors of Kandinsky.

Kandinsky's watercolors and drawings form the heart of the exhibit in the Albertina. These will be supplemented by the works of Paul Klee, Alfred Kubin, August Macke, Franz Marc, Heinrich Campendonk, Marianne von Werefkin and Robert Delaunay. Some of the displayed watercolors, drawings and prints originate from the Munich Lenbachhaus. The display will be enhanced by around 120 works from the collections of the Albertina.
