Wiener Festwochen starting soon
The Wiener Festwochen, headed by Artistic Director Luc Bondy with Performing Arts Director Stefanie Carp and Music Director Stéphane Lissner, will present 52 productions and 200 performances from 23 countries.
The inauguration of Wiener Festwochen 2010 will be dedicated to the final of the Eurovision Young Musicians Competition, one of the most important international classical music competitions. The seven European finalists of the competition will be accompanied by the ORF Radio Symphony Orchestra Vienna conducted by Cornelius Meister.
Already on 8 May “Soho Sounds 2” will take place as part of the Into the City series in the quarter of Brunnenmarkt. This concert night with balkan beats and oriental ska will also kick off the SOHO IN OTTAKRING Festival.
The first drama premiere of the will be on 10 May: “Sweet Nothings” by Scottish playwright David Harrower, who translated Arthur Schnitzler’s fin de siècle-drama „Liebelei” into present-day English. Luc Bondy stages the drama with young British actors.
On 12 May the opening night of “Lipsynch” will take place. In this a large-scale stage epic by Robert Lepage nine performers tell nine stories in nine hours. The stunning multilayered epic celebrates the complexity and synchronicity of life as it follows an adopted boy tracing his roots.
The Festwochen-Lounge at Looshaus has already opened and can be visited Mon to Fri (workdays) 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sat 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. In this unusual architectural space a temporary reading room is set up, where Festwochen literature, audio and video recordings as well as international daily newspapers are offered to the audiences. Free refreshments, i.e. coffee, tea, mineral water and chocolates, are provided by the Festwochen partners cafe+co, Schönbichler, Römerquelle and Xocolat.
