Summer in the City: Where Berlin Wombats get tanned / 17.05.08
Some of our favorites during the hot period of the year
Whenever the sun comes out here, the greyish surface of Berlin suddenly becomes a lot nicer. As we have some very beautiful parks and lakeside areas, here are some of the best for when you are tired of sightseeing:
Görlitzer Park in Kreuzberg is a tiny little place packed with young people from all over the world during the warm period of the year from midday till the early morning. Not to relaxing but fun indeed!
Volkspark Friedrichshain is very much like a Forest, not as crowded as Görlitzer Park and more green. One of the nicest parks here!
The favorite of both Berliners and tourists maybe is Treptower Park, where besides having a really beautiful area at the river Spree you could also find the famous and impressing "Sowjetisches Ehrenmal" for the Soviet soldiers who died during WWII.
If you have more time, take a train to the lakes in the southwest (Schlachtensee or Krumme Lanke, e.g.) or southeast of the city (Langer See, Müggelsee)! The water is clean so you could swim everywhere and the landscapes are very nice, too.
Have a relaxed stay!
