LARS:

Where do I begin.....

they forced me to write something here...
My name is Lars. Born in Cologne I came to Berlin in 1990. I am working in hostels since a couple of years. After I finished my study of geography, politics and urban planning I decided to stick to the travel industry. What could be a better job than working together with people from all over the world during the best time of their life ... holidays!
I started at the reception at Wombats City Hostel Berlin right from the beginning. Being part of the "first crew" was/is an indescribable experience cause you get the chance to grow up with the business. That´s why Wombat´s Berlin is kind of my baby.
After a couple of months the big bosses decided to deprive me of the reception and move me to the back office ... am I too ugly? Now I am the Manager of this wonderful crew.
Come and visit the wonderful city of Berlin. I traveled a lot, moved a lot and saw a lot but Berlin is one of the most thrilling, exciting, open minded cities I know. There is so much to see, so much to discover and so many impressions you´ll never forget.

Your stay in the Wombats City Hostel shall be one of these experiences and we try hard to make your stay the most comfortable you´ll ever have.

See you in Berlin!

Andrea from wombats City Hostel Berlin
Andrea

ANDREA:
I moved to Berlin after realizing it may be the only place in the world with all the benefits of a major city but as laid back as my tiny hometown in Saskatchewan, Canada.  I started as a receptionist at wombat’s Berlin for its first summer season in 2008.  Although I also officially work in the back office now, you’ll often find me sneaking out to the reception or up to the sky bar, travelling vicariously through your stories and listening to what it is you love most about this amazing city.

Daniel:

Hey, I`m Daniel ,i came to Berlin 4 years ago from the nice area „Black Forrest“ that’s south part of germany, but not Bavaria :)

I worked the opening shift, so i`m here from the beginning :) if you see me at the reception, you had an all night party or you coming early for breakfast because I`m working only nights. If I´m not working, I travel a lot, this Year beside NYC (lived there for one year so once a year I go there), Dublin,Stockholm,London, Munich, Venice,Tallinn and for sure the black forrest :). If you like to make the most out of your  travelmoney, feel  free to ask me .I`m famous for finding the best deals.  If I`m in Berlin I do some projects with kid`s  and I love to play boardgames ( no risk on fun :) ) if you come from the US and you drop me a can of Mountain Dew,  you  have a good chance to become my best friend :)

Denis from wombats City Hostel Berlin
Denis

DENIS:
Originally from a small city in the north of Italy, I came to Berlin with a bag full of clothes and a head full of dreams. After intending to stay three months to find myself, I’m still here (more than 4 years later) and still searching, and it seems its going to take still long time...

DENNIS:
Hi, I'm Dennis!
If I were you, reading through all these pages to finally find us hidden in the sidebar, I would at least expect those Wombat's guys to tell me something interesting.
Well... I am impudent enough to think that what led US to come here are the reasons YOU should come, too. So I imagine how it was for me first arriving to Berlin when I was 20 years old. And I felt like most of you guys feel nowadays: I was struck by the kindness of the people, the energy in the air, the masses of people in the trains, the sheer size of the city, the beautiful neighbourhoods (some are!), the huge parks and lakes and woods, the nightlife, freaks and liberty you can almost feel when you walk the streets. And basically a good mixture of that – be aware to keep the ingredients mixed, by the way – is what still keeps me here. So far I didn't find a place to live as great as this one is
Most of the time you'll see me working at night. Which means you should be prepared for not mistaking me for some kind of vampire – which I'm actually not!

FABIO:
Hi I´m Fabio, I´m an attractive, smart, rich and young Italian boy who loves sunsets and long walks on the beach… what? This isn´t for my e-darling profile? Ok sorry. I mean it. Sorry. The thing is, since I started working for wombat’s my life is full of people to meet and stuff to do, so I get confused really easily. And that happens to our guests, too. So, if you see me behind the desk or up on the roof, please don´t ask, don´t tell, just wink at me and I will know.
And take your time, take it easy, no need to hurry.

Maja from wombats City Hostel Berlin
Maja

MAJA:
My name is Maja and I am one of the receptionists.
Before settling down in the exciting city of Berlin I used to live and work in other cities and Hostels around Europe.
It all started in "The Base" in Vienna in 2004 and now I am back in another Wombats Hostel because it's just great fun.
Even though I didn't travel much anymore in the last months I still feel like getting around because of all the different kind of people I meet in Wombats every day.
If you are in Berlin it's impossible to be bored because there is so much to explore and I will be glad to recommend you all the nice places around here!

Passun Ernesto Azhand from wombats City Hostel Berlin
Passun Ernesto Azhand

Passun:

The Future is uncertain and the End is always near. That’s what Jim Morrison said and it seems to be true. At least it makes sense for me. That was one of my reasons to pack my bags and travel through Australia. Once you decide to live the life of a backpacker you never want to change your lifestyle again.
I tried to live a normal life but I didn’t really manage to get along with it like the way I did before my travelling. I sensed that something was missing.
Maybe it was freedom, or the company of so many different people, which gave me the feeling of travelling the world instead of Australia.
Working in a Hostel is not exactly the same, but I still meet so many diverse people and talking about their travelling experience gives me the feeling that I want to travel again.
So do not hesitate to share your stories with me and I will share the secrets of Berlin with you.
Since I love to go out and party I think I know some spots, which give you an insight view to the world I live in. But there is definitely more than parties, booze and blackouts. The big and modern art scene of Berlin is amazing. You literately smell history when you walk through the beautiful streets of Berlin. If you want to experience open minded and welcoming people then visit us and we try to make your stay even better than you imagined it would be.

PATRICK:
Hi my name is Patrick,
I’m one of the front desk acrobats.
I’ve been here since early 2010 and I love to work for wombat’s.
I like meeting people from all over the world, listening to their crazy stories and trying to make their stay in Berlin unforgettable.
I’m open-minded for all.
See you guys hopefully soon in Berlin

Sebastian from wombats City Hostel Berlin
Sebastian

SEBASTIAN:
WELCOME TO WOMBATS BERLIN!
My name is Sebastian. I was born in former East Berlin, but don’t really remember the time where bananas were available only once a year, capitalists were our biggest enemy and people could only travel east – no way to go west (except through your self-made tunnel).
Today there is. So I’ve traveled Europe, Australia and parts of South-East-Asia so far, learned to love the hostel life and started working in Hostels in 2003. Since, I’ve worked in Hostels in Mission Beach (QLD, Australia), Prague, Vienna, Munich and Hamburg but always came back home: to Berlin (the heart of Europe, “poor but sexy” and a must go for you!).
I’ve made it to Wombat’s in April 2008 (after begging for weeks and a few beers), first part time, today full time at the reception.
Apart from work and travel, I love to sleep very long, drink a lot of coffee, play pool and table football...  I’m very happy to see you in Berlin!

THOMAS:
Born and raised in a quiet Bavarian town, small Thomas ran away from home at the age of 16 to discover what there was to find on the other side of this big ball earth. He found Australia - and lost the ability to imagine his life as it was before...
One night, when Thomas keenly practiced to like beer (which eventually he mastered!), he noticed a peculiar similarity between the word “chill” and the South American nation “Chile”, so Chile must be chilled out, so Thomas wants to go.
Parents got a little worried about Thomas’ views, told him he should do something with his life like “study”, so Thomas chooses anthropology which doesn’t particularly help to reduce parents’ worries but they go like fck it so Thomas ends up in Berlin.
The city leaves him speechless.

--Almost! AAAH!!! It’s the best place you can ever imagine and if you can’t imagine yet then you talk to me!! I take you to the abandoned factories, I show you the soundsystem of Berghain Club, it’s all so easy to explain!

ULI-MARIE:
Well, my name is Uli. Or Marie. It might even be Ulrike or some weird combination of the above. Choose whatever you like best. I finally made it to Berlin after a long detour which took me from Bremen to New Zealand, then back to Germany just to leave again and get to know myself better somewhere in between Australia and Asia. For many strange and a couple of good reasons, I then decided to move to Bavaria, where I started studying Political Science and Canadian Studies. It felt like living in a foreign country, since I am from the coast and not used to starting my day with a breakfast consisting of wheat beer, pretzels, almost tasteless sausages and a giant amount of sweet mustard. My studies a.k.a. travel urge obviously also took me to Canada, a country that works in practice, not theory, but which I love an awful lot. After I got back it simply had to be Berlin, a city in which you sometimes feel like being constantly on the road without actually moving.  Let’s just say I love it here, and I am pretty sure you’ll end up loving it too. Just give it a try.

VALENTINA:
My name is Valentina, I am 25 years old and I was born and raised in Italy. Like everybody at the wombats I love travelling and seeing new things in life. I moved to Berlin 2 years ago and I enjoy the city with all it has to offer. Working at the wombats gives me the opportunity to help people to discover Europe and also to meet people from all over the world.
Other than that all I have to say is: Come here and see for yourself!

ANTOINE:
hello !
i m French, 29 yrs old from Bordeaux, grew up in France and studied graphic design there,
moved to Ireland to work for 4 years, and decided to open my own screen printing company here in Berlin.
Nice move cause it is a challenge to be among other part time worker/designer/painter etc...
So i m living in the most motivating city in Europe, where you could get easily lost but, i m finding my way with the help of friends.
you know that life you always wanted (cheap and free to do what you want ) well, boy, it s here !
so here i am : Happy !

BRIAN:
Name : Brian
From: Dublin, Ireland.

Moved from Dublin to Berlin in 2009 and is often seen in the luxurious Wombats SkyBar serving you the most tasty, tasty cocktails and refreshing beverages.
Turn-ons include electronic music, annoying Ross, sipping an Erdinger, falafel hunting, chess-boxing and Frank Zappa.
Turn-offs are microwaved falafel, brezeln that are too salty and getting sand everywhere when you've been swimming at the beach.
Skills: Is fluent in Irish and Gangsta, know'msayin. Makes a mean Caipirinha and can share a tip or two about gigs if bribed with a sternburg.

DYLAN:
Dylan is from downunder. From where the sheep roam.
For the last 2 years he's lived here, Berlin is his home.
He works part time to fund his habits
Making kunst and filming rabbits.

EBI:
Hey, my name is Ebi, I am 26 and originally from Cologne which is situated in the heart of the karnevalistic rhineland.
I have been working in Wombats for almost 4 years now, though most of the time, I have spend in "The Base" bar in Vienna where it all started. I moved to Berlin to finish my studies and to experience a change after all. I travelled through Australia, New Zealand and some other countries and stayed at quite a few hostels myself where I appreciated the cozy atmosphere most of the time. Wombats is a good place to hang out, meet people and have a chat with guys from all over the world. Can you dig it?

FRANZL:
Franzl was raised by wolves. All they taught him was "to drink and be awesome". This was remiss of them as he now lacks several basic social functions. However, it was a great move for you lucky people, as it makes him just about the most perfect bartender in the world. Which is good. Franzl will make your Berlin stay 146% sexier. That is a fact. And it is also true.

NORA:
My name is nora and you’ll find me at the world famous womskybar.
So far I travelled most of europe, australia, peru, argentina, thailand, canada, israel and a lot of other wonderful places. I guess working at a hostel is the only way to cure my itchy feet for a little while...at least until i have saved up enough for my next trip! I can’t wait to meet you at the wombar for a beer or two....or three and listen to your crazy travel stories and get some new ideas for places to go.

ROGER:
Hi! My name is Roger and I come from the land of the sun, siesta and paella. Barcelona is the place where I was born, although I feel Berlin to be my hometown more and more. I came to the north about two years ago, and some months later I found the best job I've ever had. And no, I'm not looking for a wage increase.

I enjoy many things in life and I can live them here in Berlin. Things as photography, music, writing or just hangin around. Sometimes making things happen, other times waiting for them to occur. I think Berlin gives you a wider range of possibilities regarding own time and space management than other european cities, more money-centered and less creativity-focused.

So, if you ever want to talk about music, society, metaphisics, philosophy, Berlin, Barcelona (and his glorious-ever-winning football team) or you are just thirsty, come upstairs and let us make you happy. Free smile included.

ROOS:
Hello there outside world!
My name is Roos, and I guess i’m the newest, if not the youngest member of the Wombarcrew. I was born and raised in the Netherlands where I finished my bachelor in Journalism. During my study I did an Erasmus programme which made me move to Denmark. After living six months in this expensive country, I wanted to go somewhere else. Plus the opportunity for an internship with the broadcastchannel RTL, was the amount of space, it’s poorness and Berlin’s creativity what brought me here. After three months of fulltime working I decided to stay to start a new study here.
In between the time I start my study I’m still wandering around the City. I’m writing, travelling to visit friends through Europe and to pay my rent and my own beers, I’m serving you beer and cocktails in the WomBar.
Berlin is great! It kept me here. I hope that after your days of visiting you understand why. Have fun!

CARO:
Wow, you’ve made it to the bottom!!! Well done. You should know enough about our team by now that a text more doesn’t hake a difference. And to be honest, I don’t have time to write about myself either (yes, even these few words were written by someone else…).

Yours,
Caro
