what´s up in Berlin
Christopher Street Day 2011 / 17.06.2011
Takes place on the 25th of June. It starts at 12:30 on Kurfürstendamm and arrives around 4:30 at Brandenburg Gate.
In Memory of the first big uprising of homosexuals against police assaults in New York on 27th June, 1969 Berlin celebrates this year for the 33rd time the Christopher Street Day. The Christopher Street Day or just CSD is the German equivalent to the so called Pride Parades or Gay Prides in other European cities.
These Parades want to call attention to the ongoing discrimination towards gays, lesbians, transgenders and bisexuals as well as celebrate the diversity of this community. Last Year 500.000 people went onto the streets of Berlin to participate in this huge demonstration with dance beats, brilliant costumes, decorated floats and occasional naked upper bodies.
There will also be an interesting programme of accompanying events to the CSD such as political events, lectures, readings, parties and other festivities. For further Information consult the following Homepage or just ask at the reception:
